OBEDIENCE

Because Islam means submission to Allah, we seek to obey His will with every thought and every deed. Giving blood is one way to express our obedience to Allah, The Giver of Life. As Semia Mehboob writes in an essay on Muslim submission, “there is nothing more liberating than being His servant.” She goes on to write:

No human relationship that has ever existed can be compared to that which exists between humans and their Creator. To be His slave means to truly be at peace with His will, to accept what He bestows and what He takes, to acknowledge that we cannot and will not always understand His plan for us, but that He does what is best for us – that is the submission that is called Islam.

Although we may not completely understand why we have been asked to care for the sick and injured by giving blood, we will undoubtedly benefit from the action because it strengthens our obedience to Allah, The Almighty.

May the choice to give blood be pleasing to Allah, The Source of All Goodness.
